iQ Drive® Systems
Home Comfort at its Best.Tappan iQ Drive® air conditioners, heat pumps and gas furnaces are the very best in home comfort. They use technology adapted from Asia, where living quarters are tight and noise is a social issue. Here's how iQ Drive systems work: Inverter-rotary technology. The air conditioner and heat pump contain an inverter, which converts the electrical current from AC to DC and, in doing so, can almost infinitely vary the compressor and fan speed motors. This technology is found in Asian mini-splits. Launched in 2006, iQ Drive is the first application of this technology for a typical North American residence. Running almost all the time. iQ Drive systems are different from traditional systems in that they are almost always running at a low level. The outdoor units can modulate anywhere from 40 to 118 percent of capacity, instantly adjusting to offset the cooling demands on the home. Because the system doesnt cycle on and off, it saves a lot of energy and reduces sound levels. In fact, sound ratings are 59-72 decibels, the lowest available. The iQ Drive fully modulating gas furnace operates from 50 to 100 percent of capacity, and then as low as 15 percent of capacity with controls through the thermostat. It analyzes the indoor temperature every 60 seconds and adjusts its percentage of firing accordingly. The three-phase motor ensures ultimate quiet in the house. Dehumidification mode. The iQ Drive air conditioner and heat pump deliver whole-home comfort, in part, through a dehumidification mode function. In very humid climates such as Alabama and Florida, homeowners may still need a separate dehumidification system, but for average- to low-humidity areas, iQ Drive can provide an excellent source of humidity control. Make sure your Tappan dealer is iQ Drive certified by the factory. iQ Drive systems are not typical air conditioners and furnaces. They require specialized training before installation. |
